Ämne: Re: Descendants of Yechiel Mechl.
Hi Emmy, OK, I just spoke to my mom and here is what she knows: Children of Yechiel Mechel you have them right. The children of 1. Elias were: Menush (Ava Weiss' father) Lajos, Aranka, Irene,(had 5 children and married cousin, son of Avrohom Dovid) and a Mrs. Steiner(my Mom could not remember her first name)and Zeldi.
2.Devora Karfunkel Braun had 6 children 4 boys: Srulci, Layosh, Dudu, and Yossi, and two girls Zeldi and Buzsi. I only know Srulci who is still alive and lives in Brooklyn.
3.Avrohom Dovid has an interesting story that happened during World War I, when a Cossack pulled his father, Yechiel Mechel's beard and he got angry at the guy, and rumor has it, that he killed him. He was very strong and picked him up and threw him into a furnace (not sure if this is true) His children were: Funci (Fannie) Devora, Pipi, Zeldi and Layosh. Only Funci survived and a niece, Katy. Funci had two children, Anne, and Peter, but Funci died last winter.
4.Zeldi Karfunkel who was married to Weiss (Ani Bitterman's grandmother) had 7 boys and 2 girls. Magda and Gizzi, Menush, Marci, Layosh, Patyu, Yankel, and two others, who did not survive.
5.Faigie Karfunkel had 7 girls and 2 boys only 4 survived: Malky, Zeldy, Chavi and Berel. Malky and Zeldy live in Toronto, Canada, and Berel lived in Israel.
Menachem Dov (Bernard) was my grandfather. Only three survived, my mom Magda, Layosh and Rivka. There were eight children in all. (2 died as infants, so really 10)
6. Moshe Karfunkel (Moritz) 2 girls and a boy, Duci, Clari, and Tibi I think Duci is in Australia if she's still alive.
7. Samuel (Shea) Karfunkel You were right, there is a Magda who married Nisanov and they live in Oregon or Denver We're not sure. I guess you know better because this was your great grandfather.
8. Ignatz had two children
9. Aranka had 3 boys, Nachman, Layosh, and Dudu and one girl, Magda who married Gross, and then a second marriage after she was widowed to Pinchas Reich. Her second marriage lasted longer than her first it's already about 33 years.
Nachman had 1 boy and 1 girl (Janet)
Layosh had 2 girls (Valerie and Hedda) and 1 boy (Eddie)
Dudu had 2 boys and one girl (was sick and died)
Magda had 3 boys (Isaac, Jonathan and Yechiel Mechel Gross)
My grandfather had 5 grandchildren from the three surviving children. The 5 grandchildren had 17 children and we have 44 grandchildren between me and my sister (she died in 1995), My cousin Susan, and my cousins Michael and George. Any question, please write. I enjoyed reading your research, and knowing about your family. Take care, and have a great day. Agi
